Winning Students 100 works in partnership with sport governing bodies to identify and support student athletes with the potential to succeed at the highest level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winning Students 100 is a national programme delivered in partnership with sportscotland, the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Student Sport and Scotland\u2019s colleges and universities.

Governing bodies play a vital role in the programme \u2014 helping to identify athletes with the potential to progress and succeed, while supporting a system that enables them to balance high-performance sport with their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Up to \u00a33,000 funding<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Academic flexibility to effectively balance academic and sporting pursuits<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Additional funding is available for athletes from areas of high deprivation (as determined by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      How is Winning Students 100 supported?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Winning Students 100 is a three-way partnership between sport<\/strong>scotland, <\/strong>Scottish Funding Council and Scotland\u2019s tertiary education sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The programme is governed by an Advisory Board, comprising representatives from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • the tertiary education sector<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Scottish Funding Council<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • sport<\/strong>scotland<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Scottish Student Sport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        A Management Group, consisting of representatives from these organisations provides operational guidance and support to the programme. Daily operations are managed by the University of Stirling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

        How it works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Identifying and supporting athletes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Each year, governing bodies are invited to nominate athletes for consideration as part of the Winning Students 100 cohort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The process includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        1. Nomination<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Governing bodies identify eligible athletes based on agreed criteria<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Application<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Athletes submit an application outlining their sporting and academic commitments<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Selection<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Awards are made based on performance level, potential and need<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Support<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Successful athletes receive funding and access to tailored support<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Eligibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • Athletes who are British passport holders, studying at least 60 credits at a college or university in Scotland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Athletes from Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth sports* are eligible to apply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Athletes should be aged 16 years or older.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            *sports must be included within the 2026 Winter Olympics\/Paralympics, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, or the 2028 Summer Olympics\/Paralympics, to be eligible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

            General Selection Principles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            To be considered for a Winning Students 100 Scholarship, athletes should have attained the following level in their sport (listed in priority order):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            1. Olympic\/Paralympic representation at a previous games<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. Commonwealth Games representation at Birmingham 2022<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. GB World Class Programme selection (at present)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. GB\/Scotland Senior International selections at a previous major Championships<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            5. GB Junior Squad Representation at a previous major Championships<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            6. World University Games representation at a previous Championships<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            7. Other recent international representation will be considered by the management committee based on merit\/strength of competition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

              In addition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • An athlete must be committed to compete within a governing body\u2019s performance programme for the scholarship award year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • An athlete must demonstrate excellent conduct as a student, high-performance athlete and role model for the Winning Students 100 Programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                How do student-athletes apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                • Student-athletes apply directly via our online portal<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • The link for applying is circulated via governing bodies and institutions each summer<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • The Winning Students 100 Management Group considers applications and makes recommendations to the Winning Students 100 Advisory Board for award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  What is the role of Sports Governing Bodies in Winning Students 100?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                  Governing bodies are central to the success of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
